i've been working on this drawing of jim morrison of the doors and his girlfriend pam for over a year now. at first i drew it half-assed over three days, and when i was about to hang it a few months ago i realized how crappily i had drawn it. so i have been adding lots of detail, and i pretty much re-drew both of their faces completely. this is the longest i've spent on any drawing, i'm so glad to call it done. i'll finally hang it to keep me from working on it more.

i found the photo for this drawing in rolling stone magazine sometime last year. i always wanted to draw jim. i really loved how they both look so peaceful in the photo, not long before jim's death. it's almost a haunting look in his eyes.

this was done on bristol board, measures 10 inches by 9 inches, i used mechanical pencils and an ebony pencil. lots of blending stumps, tissue paper, kneadable eraser action, and frustration. there's a line on jim's forehead because i had to piece together two separate scans...it was too big to fit on the scanner bed. overall i'm pretty pleased with how it came out.

This is probably my favorite photograph of the two of them. You did a really good job on the detail. Very beautiful.

When I saw this I could not find any words to describe how i felt. And I still can't.
It's just so beautiful and full of expression. Never seen anything quite like it and I am such a fan of Jim Morrison. This drawing shows the eldest of the tribe with his one true love.
If it would please you, visit my gallery for some poetry.
Keep up the good work :)

"Love Street" is a 1968 song by The Doors which appears on their album Waiting For The Sun. The song is about the street in Laurel Canyon, California, where Jim Morrison lived with his girlfriend Pamela Courson. Their address was 8021 Rothdell Trail. Morrison and Courson referred to Rothdell Trail as "Love Street" because they would sit on the balcony and watch countless hippies walk by. Morrison also wrote the "Waiting For The Sun" album here, and most of "Soft Parade", along with countless poems. Love Street was originally a poem that Jim wrote for Pam about their time in the house on Love Street. Robby Krieger suggested it be a song, and put music to it. The poem turned into the gem of a song we all know as Love Street.

Nice portrait of Jim & Pam... I like the use of light and dark... I never really liked drawing from a photo very much as the light contrast can get messed up, but this is cool. :)
